Quick answer
KnitPic is a fast, creative photo mashup party game where players match picture cards to a judge's card, and the judge picks the best (or funniest) connection. You can learn the core Nitpick mode in under two minutes.
Why KnitPic works for mixed groups
KnitPic is designed to get people talking and laughing rather than staring at a screen. Because the judge changes every round, everyone gets a turn to steer the humor, which keeps the energy fresh even with players of different ages or experience levels.
The game includes three different modes, so the same box can serve a casual family night or a more competitive adult gathering. That flexibility makes it a smart pick if you want one party game that adapts to the crowd.
What you need before you start
You only need the KnitPic cards and at least three players—one judge plus at least two submitters. The game works best with four to eight players, but larger groups can rotate in as judges more frequently.
No pen, paper, or phone is required. The entire game is card-based, so you can play anywhere from a dining table to a picnic blanket without setup fuss.
How to play KnitPic: step-by-step
- Set up the deck: Shuffle the photo cards and the prompt cards separately. Each player draws a hand of photo cards—five is a good starting count for most groups. Place the prompt deck face down in the center. Check that every player has the same number of cards so no one runs out early.
- Choose the first judge: Pick a judge (the 'Nit Picker') for the first round. The judge draws one prompt card from the center deck and reads it aloud so everyone can hear the word or phrase. If the prompt is unclear, let the judge read it twice—mishearing a prompt can derail the round.
- Submit your best match: Each non-judge player selects one photo card from their hand that they think best matches the prompt card. They place it face down in front of the judge. The goal is to make the judge agree with your connection, not just the most obvious one. Avoid overthinking—a funny or unexpected match often wins more than a literal one.
- Judge picks the winner: The judge flips all submitted photo cards face up, one by one, and announces the winner—the card they think is the best (or funniest) match to the prompt. The winning player keeps the prompt card as a point. Judges should explain their choice briefly; it keeps the game social and prevents disputes.
- Rotate the judge and continue: Pass the judge role to the next player clockwise. Everyone draws a new photo card to keep their hand at the starting count, then start a new round with a fresh prompt card. Keep the pace quick—KnitPic shines when rounds move fast, so don't let analysis paralysis slow the game.
- End the game: Decide a target number of prompt cards to collect—five is a solid game length for most groups. The first player to reach that target wins. If you want a shorter game, three cards works well. Announce the target before the first round so everyone knows the goal from the start.
